Social responsability
Índice de sustentabilidad: Antecedentes
Assessment of companies that conduct business in the long run on a sustainable manner represents a global trend nowadays. In that regard, there are sustainable stock indexes such as the FTSE4Good in Europe, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index in the U.S., and the Index Sustentabilida de Empresarial that operates in Brazil.
In 2010, the Mexican Stock Exchange took the initiative to build a sustainable index for specific stocks, which proposed assessing the degree of adoption of international practices of the OECD. In that regard, the best-evaluated companies would be part of the index, thus obtaining the Sustainable Company Seal.
The index was formally announced on December 8, 2011, and would be available in local and global financial information and data systems such as Bloomberg, Reuters, and Infosel, among others.
Evaluation and Results
Three main dimensions were evaluated, namely environmental, social responsibility, and corporate governance. Two external institutions, EIRIS (Empowering Responsible Investment) and the Anáhuac del Sur University, were selected to perform the evaluation.
